Designer Yves Saint Laurent Dies in Paris at 71
The designer Yves Saint Laurent has died in Paris at 71 years of age. He became chief designer at Dior at the early age of 21 after being spotted by Christian Dior four years earlier at a dress design competition. He was born in French-occupied Algeria and set the tone for 50’s fashion with the gently flared “Trapeze” dress.
YSL founded the label Rive Gauche and helped to establish Paris as the hub of the fashion world. His long-time associate and former partner, Pierre Berge broke the news to the world on Sunday night.
