Driving from Alice Spring’s to King’s Canyon via the Henbury meteorite crater

Driving to King’s Canyon from Alice Springs can be done on sealed roads or else on un-sealed roads along the Ernest Giles Road via the Henbury Meteorite Conservation Park. In 2007, we decided on the latter and went off to see the spot where NASA had tested their martian landing gear. Here’s the road itself:[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/x8zXQsewY_o" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]

The meteorite site was very desert-y -lots of wind, dry, cracked rocks and a few scrubs with nothing else to see apart from some out-of-place and rather small ridges. When we later saw the film “Wolf Creek” -we realised how similar our experience had been. We had passed two caravans on the entire 4 hour off-road journey and had seen nothing but wilderness in an incredibly important aboriginal reserve.

We’ve only just got round to uploading the Aussie videos -so enjoy!
