England v France RWC 2007 Semi-Final Defining Photos

After England’s wonderful display in the Rugby World Cup 2007 Semi-Final versus the host nation, France, I have decided to get hold of the key pictures of the event. These photos have been sourced from around the globe for everyone’s enjoyment, visit the links below the photograph to see the image in its original context. I’ll try to explain why I’ve included each individual picture where necessary. Enjoy!

Josh Lewsey opened the game perfectly for England, scoring a try in under two minutes, equaling the record set for Rugby World Cup Semi-Finals by Jonah Lomu (against England) in 1995.

Chabal, the giant French talisman, joined the game rather earlier than might have been planned, on 25 minutes.

This was an excellent quick drop goal, which sailed right between the posts beautifully from a long way out. He was under huge pressure, and managed to get the ball kicked in incredibly quick time. A renowned trainer, this is where it pays off for Wilkinson: when it counts.

Defensive Teamwork

Wilkinson & Sackey work together to bring down Damien Traille of France. England’s tireless work in defense would help them to win this match.

The English players demonstrating the spirit which has seen them triumph in two games they arguably went into as underdogs, through sheer grit, teamwork and great discipline.

I’m still trying to find a photo of that great moment when the largest unit on the pitch, Sebastian Chabal steamrollered into one of the smallest, Andy Gomersall, who stood his ground manfully, and it took four English players to fell the big man, just five metres from the English tryline. After this great effort, when England were trailing by a point with under ten minutes remaining, England would kick the penalty that regained the lead, through Wilkinson.

I’ll try to get the best photos up on this page.

  2. The game was awesome, ugly, beautiful, superb and we are still celebrating… roll on Saturday.

South Africa - Argentina was also a good match to watch, pity the ARgentines made so many errors and handling went to pot. However, the Springboks should be congratulated for their speed and opportunism.

  3. Thx England for beating the French.Wonder how they now feel after their “forward pass” win over All Blacks. Now it`s the Boks turn to be slaugthered,as they think they will repeat what happened in pool games. Will support you 100%.Just do`nt let them intercept passes as their speciality.

  4. it is now 04:15 on the tuesday after the france game. our party just ended from the weekend. and i feel i been ten rounds with sebastian chabal. what an astonishing team we (england) have at this world cup. 36-0 against the saffers a few weeks ago will count for nothing on saturday. i believe its englands to lose. now excuse me while i go and get me head down for a few days in preperation for saturday. now where’s them paracetamol??? come on england!!!
