This is a great 4WD which is inexpensive to run over long distances. We have driven around most of Australia in the Pajero, and it has given us no problems at all. When needed, the 4WD works well. Low range gears will pull you through the roughest terrain. 4 good quality desert tires, plus spare in good condition.
Check the “Travelling Australia” sections of this site and you’ll see where this car has taken us - including a great week on Fraser Island.
We have looked after the Pajero too, maintaining the oil and fluid levels at all times, and we are replacing the air and oil filters this week so it is fit for its new owners. Roadworthiness should not be a problem - we bought the car from a dealer with RWC in February this year, and have treated the car very well since then.
Damage
As with most 4WD vehicles, there is some minor surface damage to the vehicle, though none which would see it fail a RWC. Here is the known damage:
- Dent to rear passenger side door - this is by the window, and is purely asthetic, we bought the vehicle with this dent.
- Small mark on bonnet - there is a mark across the bonnet as if it has had a rack of some kind on it. This does not penetrate the paint, so there is no associated rust, but it is visible to the naked eye from close up.
- The only areas of rust on the whole vehicle is on the bull bar where the previous owner had fitted, and removed, a winch. The bull bar also has a few minor stone chips which may begin to rust, but these can easily be brushed off and re-painted.
- Rear bumper - there is a small dent to the rear bumper where the previous owner may have reversed into something at low speed. This is also superficial.
Benefits
Long range fuel tank with reasonable economy. A full tank will go 600 KMs if driven at around 100KPH.
4WD, high and low range, sound and working - we have used this a number of times without any failure.
Comfortable, large, spacious car - can hold 7 people comfortably, or two people, and all their camping equipment (and all our possessions!) in the boot.
Air conditioning which is working - for those hot desert days!
Tinted Windows throughout.
Sports Exhaust system.
Good stereo with CD player, for when you get out of range of radio waves.
Victorian Rego until May next year.
We’ll also include 40 litres worth of water tanks, and a 20 litre fuel jerry (never used) which we bought but haven’t needed on our trip around Australia - you can have these with the car, as we won’t need them once it is sold.
I’ve also got various bits of camping and fly-fishing equipment, as well as a 500v power inverter (with 3 Australian power outlets - to charge phones, laptops etc from car battery), blow up queen size Coleman camping bed - with in-car electric pump to inflate - an in-car electric food cooler / heater, and other bits and pieces. These can be included if you want any of it (though I am also selling them separately) just ask if you want them, and we can throw them into the deal.

[...] the sale of our car to some nice Germans here in Adelaide, we have decided to hire a vehicle to complete the final leg [...]
Well I love the Mk1 Pajero and I hope you got a good price for it in the end. And what was your long-term view of the truck - would you have another?
Thanks Tim, yes, we managed to sell it to the first person who looked at it for full asking price.
A good car - it got us around Australia without flinching, on a trip that included a week on Fraser Island (bitumen free, solid off-road conditions) and over many thousands of kilometers of un-metaled roads. Not to mention the fact we did approaching 30,000 Ks in it!
A pretty bomb-proof car given the odd oil change, though I don’t think I could afford to fuel one over here.
It is probably still circulating around Australia somewhere, as we sold it to some travellers from Germany!
