Freecycling a Caravan!

April 22nd, 2008 by Linda Haywood Posted in Climate Change, For Sale, Photos

Caravan for Free in North YorkshireThe World’s Greatest Blog is celebrating Earth Day and supporting Freecycle by offering a FREE static caravan to anyone who is able to take it away.

The spacious static caravan has a bathroom, kitchenette, double bedroom, built-in wardrobes, living room and built in gas fire. Plus you get the twin gas bottles included!

The caravan is available to anyone who wants it and can take it away before the end of April from a location in North Yorkshire. Just leave a comment at the end of this post -mail addresses will be hidden) and we’ll get in touch. Alternatively go to the Darlington or Northallerton Freecycle groups and check out the latest posts.

Freecycle is a Yahoo Group that allows members to put small ‘adverts’ up for their unwanted items. Those interested respond to the advert by e-mail and mutually agree a meeting place for the handover (people usually provide a telephone number and then allow takers to pick the item up from their house).

Freecycle’s strict rules stipulate that no money should ever change hands. Rather, the benefits of Freecycle are the easy disposal of old things and getting great items for free!

Yahoo has also decided to support the brilliant Freecycle in a big way - offering surreptitious treasures in amongst the usual posts between April 20th and May 4th. Among the Earth Day prizes will be: a smart car, an eco-resort vacation, local organic food delivery for a year and a year’s worth of one-hundred- percent recycled, unbleached toilet paper.

Get involved and let us know what you will be putting on Freecycle in the next few days. Here are some more pictures from inside the FREE caravan:

Update!

This caravan is NOT at a caravan site, it is at our house. You must come and collect it (i.e. with a low loader). It is not available for weekends, for rent, or to be kept “on-site”.

    Hi There,

What a wonderful post! I think its been the best thing advertised on freecycle!

I’m a babysitter in Darlington (well look after mainley family members children nephews , nieces etc.. ) i would love nothing more then this summer to be able to take them away for summer on a short break instead of sitting atround the house or doing the same old thing it would be a lovely treat.

    thanks

    susan

Thanks for the pleasant comments, just to clear things up, as it seems there is a little confusion:

    1) This is a STATIC caravan, which you can’t tow with a car or 4X4 (you couldn’t even tow it with a tractor legally on a road).

    2) We are not offering it as a place to stay, you will have to collect it - that will require a truck - low loader;

    3) This caravan is at our HOME - not on a site; as a result

    4) We will not give out our address to anonymous people on the internet. At the very least, contact us by email with your phone number and we’ll give directions down the track: it really isn’t safe to publish your address in a public place.

That said, we are giving it away for nothing, with two large gas bottles (which are fairly expensive in themselves!) and working hot water and gas fire etc.

The bathroom needs a little work (toilet (can be plumbed into sewage) is a little lose on the floor - would need to be screwed down).

Other than that, the caravan is in excellent condition.

The first person to contact us who can get hold of a vehicle to collect it, and can provide a precise time when they will pick up WILL TAKE THIS CARAVAN HOME FOR NOTHING!

All things being equal, it should be collected on thursday - though will update here if/when it goes.

The caravan was towed away on Sunday - though not without difficulty. The lorry was so long it had to go back a different route and nearly got stuck up a steep hill. The helpful neighbourly farmers, Richard and Albert, towed it up with a tractor and rescued the poor driver from a difficult day.

    Thankyou all for your interest.
