Kirribilli Running Club, Sydney
I’ve just started work as a temp at Kordia in St Leonards. There I met another temp called Lucy (she does the A-K work, I do the L-Z). She met a guy on the ferry who organises Kirribilli Running Club so we trundled along to check it out.
The group meet every Thursday 6:30pm and every Sunday 9:00am at the bottom of Milson’s Point steps. The Thursday run is a set 6km route across Sydney Harbour Bridge, round the opera house and back. The Sunday run varies but is longer -lasting around an hour. We joined in on a Thursday run.
Bags were deposited at the pub over the road and the group set off up the steps. I hung back at the rear, having been out of training for several weeks. Lucy, however, strode out with the leaders. I think she has a somewhat unfair advantage being a qualified Pilates teacher and that -I think she was running high on Chi or something.
Meanwhile my new running partner, Naomi, and I shuffled along at the back. To say we were the slowest I still had to walk a couple of times and cut off a corner. Naomi kept running and did the longer route to the Opera House. I decided to save that tourist attraction for another time. She caught me up on the bridge whilst we battled with the wind coming off the water.
Suffice to say, the entire running club (about 15 people) were waiting for us at the top of the steps and we received a round of applause for arriving. David gave us a time of about 35 minutes and everyone headed for the pub. Felt a bit skanky in the suave bar, but there’s safety in numbers.
Overall a friendly bunch and a nice run. Also, the views from the bridge are exceptional.
