Melbourne Cup 2007
Tomorrow will see the horse race that makes Australia stop – the Melbourne Cup, which takes place at Flemington, Melbourne, Victoria at 3pm Eastern Daylight Saving Time (so half an hour earlier here in South Australia & UK time: 4am GMT).
It is a massive day, which sees holidays across Victoria, and everyone who is anyone will turn out in their finery to go for their yearly day’s racing.
For our part, we’ll be getting some coverage onto the internet, through Allied Equine, so if you can’t watch the race, get ready for the fastest highlights reel in history – we’ll get a copy of the race online within minutes of the finish.
Who will win the Melbourne Cup?
If I knew that, I wouldn’t be working away at 11:15pm, now, would I! However, I’ll point you to some likely winners, for my tuppence worth:
Purple Moon should make the frame and last year’s fourth placed horse, Zipping, looks sure to go well again, having been aimed at the race for 12 months.
There you have it, I’ll report on the race after the event!
Update
The page is now built, ready to put the video of the Melbourne Cup online for you to watch and enjoy – Watch the Melbourne Cup Online with (almost) Live Video !
Result:
1st – Efficient
2nd – Purple Moon
3rd – Mahler
4th – Zipping
Both my each-way choices performed admirably! Purple Moon had the race within his grasp with 50 metres to go, but perhaps went slightly too early. Take nothing away from this winner, though, he was well produced to win in fine style.

If you’re heading to Flemington for the Melbourne Cup – have a good day!

Hi Nick,
One of our sites – http://www.alliedequine.com – will be covering the melbourne cup, and we’ll place a copy of the full race video on that site (and probably in this page too) as soon as we get it online.
Best of luck in the sweep!
