Playing Football in Sydney - and other news
Just a quick post tonight as I’m feeling quite tired…
Last night Linda and I went to our new local pub in Sydney, The Harlequin, who brand themselves as “Australia’s Best Rugby Pub” or something. There is certainly a lot of rugby paraphernalia kicking about, but it is one of the best pubs we’ve found in Australia, due in no small part to it being not unlike a British pub.
Last night was quiz night, and after we’d had some fish and chips, a load of ex-pat English guys came in and joined our table. We finished second in the quiz, and I was chatting to one of them about trying to find a football team in the area. As it turned out, he was a member of a team across the harbour bridge, who train on Wednesdays, so tonight I went to train and, hopefully enroll.
I haven’t played football since about October, so it was good to get involved with football again as it is the only thing I have really missed about being away from the UK. The club is massive, and there were about 80 guys training. I got some good shot-stopping practice, until I could hardly walk, and am now pretty knackered.
To cut a long story short, I’m playing in a friendly on Sunday, then will probably sign on for the club as they are mostly British with a few Aussies and play to a quite good standard!
Linda and I have also decided to launch another website, which will hopefully take the world by storm very soon - I’ll keep you all posted, but it’s going to be extremely awesome I’m sure.
Linda has got a job and I have got a meeting on Monday about doing some contract work to do a some web stuff - will also update with details when they are available.
Our new apartment is really nice too, and has a swimming pool, sauna, gym complex just downstairs! We even get free rice - and plenty of sushi style rolls from our Korean landlady, so v. healthy all round.
I will contact all friends/family etc with the address and phone numbers in the next day or so - things have been fairly hectic this week with getting work, an apartment, joining a football club and beginning a new web project!
More on these and many more stories coming very soon - keep checking back!
