To embed a Youtube video by hand

Go to Youtube, find the video you want to embed. Look for the “Embed Code” and copy it.

Some videos will say “Embedding disable by request”, this means that the copyright owner does not allow people to embed its material on their websites. You will not be able to use these videos.

Go back to Wordpress and press the “HTML” tab on your article.

Find the place where you would like the video to appear. Press “code”

and enter the embed code from Youtube. Press “code” again to finish. There should be no gaps between the <code>embed code</code>.

Press “Visual” and you will see a big yellow box where the video will appear once published.

Alternatively, use the “Add Media” functions by going to the film icon.

The enter your youtube video URL into the “Video URL” box. Give it a caption and then press “insert into post”.

You can also use this function to add you own videos from your computer. Instead of entering the video URL, just press “choose files to upload”.

Option Theme

If your website has the Options theme, like this one does, you have a third option for embedding videos. This is superior because it will display the latest videos on the homepage and automatically place videos in the post for you. However, if you put more than one video in a post, your subsequent videos will have to be embedded using the methods above.

Scroll down to “Custom Fields”.

Choose “Videos” from the drop-down box.

Enter the Youtube embed code and take away everything except one of the URLs which ends in “=1″ or “=0″ (there are two in the embed code). The “value box” only needs to use one URL from the embed code:

Then press “Add Custom Field”.

The next step depends on how you have customised your version of the Options theme. For our partners using the Options theme, just go up to “Tags” and enter “Videos”.

Press “Add” and you will see a little tag with a cross next to it.

This will then feature your video in the “latest videos” and place it in the article for you. If you want to delete the tag, just press the little cross next to it.

The publish your post (or submit) and enjoy the results:
