The World’s Greatest Blog Recognises Kosovan Independence
The World’s Greatest Blog has today announced that it will recognise the newly independent state of Kosovo. Countries such as Spain are opposed to recognising this self-declared sovereign state for fears of encouraging domestic secession. However, The World’s Greatest Blog agrees with Woodrow Wilson that every nation should have a state -aligning it with Britain, France and the US. Although uncomfortable in such imperialist company, TWGB is mindful of the needs of the Kosovan people. After a sustained campaign of ethnic cleansing by Serbian forces, NATO and the EU stepped in to administer Kosovo as a separate area of Serbia. Serbia is vehemently opposed to recognition of Kosovo and is calling in its alliance with Russia to help.
Yup it’s a shame that Serbs ethnically cleansed Albanians, So much in fact that It went from being majority serbs in the area in 1930s to the numbers being greatly reduced in the 1990s
So who really did the ethnic cleansing here?
Bojan - there is a difference between ethnic cleansing and people moving away.
Of course their number was greatly reduced when they no longer had a stranglehold on the place.
Fuzziest logic I’ve ever heard.
All of the Balkan states have a bloody and gruesome history. None of them have a moral monopoly on the situation. However, given the gross crimes against humanity that were documented in Kosovo, does it not make sense to separate the populations and allow autonomy on the basis of nationality?
I, personally, would happily live in a world without borders as I don’t feel very patriotic about my country -I was just born there, I didn’t choose it.
Nevertheless, if people feel so strongly about their identity that they will continue killing until they have exterminated one another, I would separate them into different countries to end the argument -hence Kosovan Independence.
