Paluma Lake is actually a reservoir and not actually that scenic unless you take one of the marked walks. Birthday Creek falls are natural beauties and well worth the short walk. Hidden Valley Cabins are amongst more native scrub than rainforest but the owner gave us good advice to visit Walluman Falls. We stayed at Ingham which, like Townsville, is another fairly forgettable town with overpriced motels.
