World Rubik’s Cube Championship 2007 - Begins this week

Stop what you’re doing!

The World Rubik’s Cube Championship 2007 begins at the end of this week, running over three days on the 4th, 5th and 6th October in Budapest.

The first ever World Rubik’s Cube Championship took place in Budapest in 1982 and the 2007 event is the fourth time the event has taken place.

Competitors will battle it out in a series of events - including 3X3 cubes with feet - with the main event final taking place on Sunday 6 October 2007.

A quick look through Rubik’s Cube Event history reveals some stunning levels of cube solving ability - with the youngest 3X3 puzzle solver, Yui Tomita, aged 4 years and 8 months, and the oldest being 78 years and 10 days.

The fastest ever single Rubik’s Cube completion is 9.86 seconds by Frenchman Thibaut Jacuinot at the Spanish Open event this year. Stats from World Cube Association.

Not bad considering most of us got one for Christmas and never solved it!
